Sunday, October 23, 2022 Cultural Corner at the Portland Japanese Garden

Report from Patrick:

I had my first experience of performing at a Cultural Corner event at the Portland Japanese Garden. This is part of a weekly series hosted by the garden of performances, lectures and presentations on a wide range of topics related to Japanese Culture, past and present. It’s difficult to see in this picture but attendees were seated to the right and left of the space we were in as well as in an adjoining anteroom. I performed and answered questions for a little over an hour and in total, there were probably fifty or so garden visitors who sat in for at least part of the performance.

In the picture, I’m performing ‘HiFuMi Hachigaeshi’ while wearing a Komuso style tengai hat, a costume accessory that folks seemed to enjoy. I’ve been told that this is a good look for me.

Many thanks to the Portland Japanese Garden for extending the invitation to return for another performance. We look forward to more collaboration with this wonderful organization.
